Ever heard of the Tejano Project? Despite its title, in John Odam’s novel The Candidate Conspiracy, the Tejano Project is not a campaign to get everyone dancing to Selena songs (although that might not be such a bad idea). It’s actually an international plan to make guns more easily available to everyone around the world (okay, that is a bad idea). A Russian hit man has been sent to grease the wheels with a little American blood and get the whole thing in motion. Houston attorney Jennifer Spencer and Texas Ranger Juan Falcone are investigating the Project and its splinter plans. At stake is not only a worldwide glut of weapons but an illegally funded U.S. senate race and the U.S. presidency (think Manchurian Candidatewith a Texas accent and lots more guns). Odom reads at 7 p.m. Brazos Bookstore, 2421 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-523-0701 or visit www.brazosbookstore.com. Free.
