Dryope and Iole

Theatre Suburbia hosts a world premiere play by Nancy Kiefer

It’s hard to make the Great Depression funny, but playwright Nancy Kiefer manages to do to just that in Dryope and Iole. (Kiefer, theater fans will remember, wrote The Illustrated Woman.) Set in the poverty and desolation of the Depression, the play examines women’s relationships during troubled times. With humor and a sense of hope, the women go through difficulties but emerge with their spirits and friendships intact. 8:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. January 25 and February 1. Through February 7. 4106 Way Out West Drive. For information, call 713-682-3525 or visit www.theatresuburbia.com. $10 to $12.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8:30 p.m.; Sundays, 3 p.m. Starts: Jan. 9. Continues through Feb. 1, 2009
