Polar-Palooza

Web exclusive!

Here are a couple of questions we’d like to ask the scientists at Polar-Palooza: Exactly how much Arctic ice has to melt before Houston’s flooded over? Is it true polar bears are moving down, mating with American bears and creating a monstrous hybrid? Those probably aren’t at the top of the list of topics for discussion for the oceanographers, climatologists and ice researchers who’ll be speaking at the event (they’ll likely want to talk about global warming and the death of glaciers), but they do interest us. The six Polar-Pooloza experts know the Arctic and Antarctica as well as anyone, and their multimedia presentation includes the very latest information on what’s going on with our icy top and bottom. Free screenings of the full-dome planetarium film Ice Worlds bookend the presentation. 6:30 p.m. Houston Museum of Natural Science, One Hermann Circle Drive, in Hermann Park. For information, call 713-639-4629 or visit www.hmns.org. $17.
