David Ebershoff’s novel The 19th Wife caused quite a stir when it was released last summer. Now you can take a deeper look at the book, examining its two parallel stories. One recounts the life of Ann Eliza, Brigham Young’s 19th wife, who was expelled from the Mormon Church and spent the rest of her life trying to destroy and discredit the religious leader. The other details the present-day mystery in which a gay son, long ago thrown out of the church, comes home to prove his mother’s innocence in the murder of her polygamous husband.
