If you like your stories to follow a nice, straight line, you might find Eurydice a bit of a challenge. Not because the plot wanders, but because playwright Sarah Ruhl’s use of language is simultaneously jarring and poetic. You can guess from the title that this is a retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth, with an emphasis on Eurydice for once. Before Orpheus follows her, Eurydice descends into the underworld alone, a place where nothing, not even death, is what it seems. Sad, sweet funny, and then sadder still, Eurydicedeserves your attention.
