The barbacoa ($5.50) at Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant (3401 N. Main, 713-227-8801) is a house specialty for good reason. The meat is incredibly soft and tasty, but the thing that distinguishes it from other versions is that it's not dripping with grease, and consequently, you can taste the beef and seasonings in all their glory. You can get it in a taco or on a platter, but the platter is the only way to go, since it has so much more meat. The platter comes with two thick, homemade tortillas, Spanish rice, refried beans, lettuce, tomato and guacamole.
