Black History Month Celebrations

You won’t have to go any further than your neighborhood library to find family-friendly Black History Month celebrations. There are various music programs planned recalling African-American music from plantation spirituals to the sounds of Motown. A step crew will not only perform, but will also present the history of the fast-stepping, intricate dance form. Storytellers will continue the Griot traditions, some appearing with stilt-walkers. Looking for something more literary? There’s a discussion of Sister Souljah’s novel Midnight: A Gangster Love Story.
