Jane Long was one of the first white women to settle in Texas in the 1820s, and her story is well known. But Long didn’t come alone. Her slave and companion Kian was with her. Together they survived harrowing dangers and encountered a Texas on the brink of revolution. The children’s play Kian Long, Texas Pioneerrecounts their true life experiences, mixing in fictionalized meetings with famous people of the time including Sam Houston and Stephen F.
