Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Web exclusive!

Author Ian Fleming created James Bond — and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Before you say the two characters had nothing in common, remember this: James Bond had a flying car; Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was a flying car. See, much closer than you thought.

The Broadway musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has Caractacus Potts, his children Jeremy and Jemima, Truly Scrumptious, the Baron and Baroness of Vulgaria, and, of course, that flying car, involved in a complicated circle of candy makers, child catchers, and pseudo-royalty. Like all those James Bond books, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang ends with the good guys winning and here the bad guys comically getting their due. 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sundays. Through March 7. Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, 800 Bagby. For information, call 713-629-3700 or visit www.broadwayacrossamerica.com/houston. $21 to $59.

Tuesdays-Fridays, 8 p.m.; Saturdays, 2 & 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 & 7:30 p.m. Starts: Feb. 24. Continues through March 7, 2009
