Movies Houstonians Love: Kingdom of Heaven

Web exclusive!

Jim Hackett is, among other things, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation. He’s also a director for Halliburton and Fluor Corporation, and Chairman of the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Oh, and he’s a movie lover. He’ll share one of his favorite movies today when he introduces Kingdom of Heaven. The latest installment of the Movies Houstonians Loveseries, Kingdom of Heaven stars Orlando Bloom as a member of the 12th-century Crusades. The last Christian defender of Jerusalem, Bloom’s character negotiates the surrender of the city to Muslim forces. The action avoids a bloody battle, and inspires a mutual — if only momentary — respect between the two factions. An epic by director Ridley Scott, Kingdomreceived mixed reviews from critics when it was released four years ago, but it found a loyal audience. Including, it seems, oil company exec Jim Hackett. 7 p.m. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-639-7515 or visit www.mfah.org. $6 to $7.
