Joshua Beckman stirs poetic craft with a modern sensibility. In true Poison Pen Reading fashion, his works, such as “Karate Chop of Love,” are sure to score with drunken laymen and aficionados alike. Beckman has published five collections of poetry and a gazillion translations. Hear him read some of those and a few newbies after poet and fiction writer Barbara Hamby. 8:30 p.m. Poison Girl, 1641 Westheimer.
