Music by Living American/Houston Composers

Enjoy new works by Paul English, Reynaldo Ochoa, Arthur Gottschalk and others

One of the greatest thrills for the serious music fan is to discover a new work, something that expands both your collection and your range as a listener. There are few better opportunities to do this than today’s Music by Living American/Houston Composersconcert, co-hosted by the Houston Composers Alliance and the University of St. Thomas’s music department. Local musicians will cover a variety of styles as they perform the works, which include Paul English’s 2007 “Musaic,” performed by the Trio Angelico; the American premiere of Arthur Gottschalk’s “Rotating Hexachords: A Grand Rag-Tango for Solo Piano,” performed by Kris Becker; and one of the evening’s three world premieres, Reynaldo Ochoa’s “Dancing Lights at Water’s Edge,” performed by pianist Jasmine Hatem. Expand your horizons by staying local. 7:30 p.m. Cullen Hall, University of St. Thomas, 4001 Mt. Vernon. For information, call 713-665-8877 or visit www.houstoncomposersalliance.com. $10.
