Five Flights

The seriously funny comedy by Adam Bock is Unhinged Productions’ latest show

A gay hockey player, the fear of commitment and a crumbling aviary all play a role in the comedy Five Flights, Unhinged Productions’ latest offering. Siblings Ed, Bobby and Adele have inherited a house-size aviary from their father. He built the giant birdhouse after his wife died because he believed her spirit had become a wren. Now that their father’s gone too, the trio is stuck with a useless structure that’s in disrepair and no clear idea about what to do with it. Ed, who’s being romanced by Tom, a professional hockey player, wants to let the thing finish falling down. (“Just kiss him!” a friend tells Tom.) Bobby’s wife Jane wants to sell the land to make way for a new retirement development. And Olivia, a religious fanatic and the object of Adele’s affection, wants to build the Church of the Fifth Day to honor birds (remember that wren?). The group is on a collision course, but the audience doesn’t mind; the laughs are too delicious to care. 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Through March 28. Freneticore Theatre, 5102 Navigation. For information, call 281-312-9379 or visit www.u-p.org. $20.
