TUTS’s latest show is projecting on stage

In its new production of Les Misérables, Theatre Under The Stars has ditched the turntable stage of the original and added projected images to its lineup. Faced with the reality of nonmoving stages across America, projection designer Zachary Borovay and set designer Matt Kinley used paintings by the author of Les Misérables, Victor Hugo, as a jumping-off point for images that will appear throughout the play.

But all is not change. Jean Valjean will be performed by Rob Evan, who starred in the role on Broadway, and Javert will be played by Robert Hunt, who also starred in that role on Broadway. And the songs, “Master of the House,” “On My Own” and “I Dreamed a Dream,” are still there. 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sundays.
