Houston Grand Opera continues its build-up to the upcoming world premiere of the André Previn opera Brief Encounter with an outdoor screening of Gigi. The 1958 film, which won both an Oscar and a Grammy, features Previn, who was music director for the Houston Symphony for several years, at the baton. Other events in advance of Brief Encounter include Taste This!, a concert with HGO Studio Artists singing more Previn-directed music such as tunes from My Fair Lady and Porgy and Bess on March 31. There’s also a screening of The Fortune Cookie at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston on March 29, and the Sunday Jazz Series at Discovery Green on March 29, both featuring — you guessed it — music by Previn. Gigiscreens today at 7 p.m. Discovery Green, 1500 McKinney. For information on all these events, call 713-400-7336 or visit www.discoverygreen.org. Free.
