First Annual Neopopstreetfunk Art ShowWeb exclusive!By Olivia Flores AlvarezPublished on April 01, 2009 at 1:41amExhibit co-organizer Kevin Sechelski admits that there really isnt any funk art in the one-night-only First Annual Neopopstreet - funk Art Show. Theres some neo-pop, and certainly some street art, but sadly, no funk. We have a large group of artists, and we were trying to come up with something that was based on everyones style, Sechelski says. We had neopop, and we also have kinda a modern urban art look as well. We just threw the funk in there at the end because its going to be a funky show. Sechelski and co-organizer Nicky Davis, who both have work in the exhibit, were looking for under-recognized artists for the show. Robert Hodge shows a lot, so does Matt Messinger, but the others are really kinda no-name artists. We wanted artists who could come together and mix ideas, to have a different kind of show thats not a gallery show. I wouldnt say that were the only ones doing this, but I do think that right now were going through an urban movement thats not really like many other artists in Houston. With the show, we just wanted to give Houston a little bit of maybe whats missing. 7 to 10 p.m. Nance Street Gallery, 1310 Nance Street. For information, call 832-545-5503. Free.
