InPrint/Methodist Hospital Studio Series

Web exclusive!

Poetry nuts and prose-heads alike can find inspiration at tonight’s InPrint/Methodist Hospital Studio Series, which features two young, successful writers. Wunderkind Bret Anthony Johnston not only received oodles of praise for his collection of Texas-centered short stories, Corpus Christi, but also tapped the brains of famous writers and teachers to assemble a how-to writing guide called Naming the World and Other Exercises for the Creative Writer. Oh, and he also heads the creative writing department at Harvard. Joining him is Christine Hume, the author of Alaskaphreniaand Musca Domestica, a book of poetry that skips from technical scientific language to the loftiest reams of philosophy (and which won the Barnard New Women Poets Prize for its feats), who is an Eastern Michigan University professor. Since both writers are also teachers, you might glean a how-to hint or two. 7:30 p.m. Antidote Coffee, 729 Studewood. For information, call 713-521-2026 or visit www.inprinthouston.org. Free.
