Spies and journalists share one rule: Never get too close to your subject. There aren’t any spies in the Italian film The Right Distance, but there is a journalist. Giovanni, a teenaged stringer for a big-city newspaper, covers his small town, where, unfortunately for him, nothing much ever happens. But that changes when Mara, a young and beautiful teacher, arrives. She starts a relationship with Hassan, another outsider, igniting a series of violent events nobody expected. Covering their tragedy, Giovanni finds that for some stories, there is no right distance. 7:15 p.m. Italian Cultural & Community Center, 1101 Milford. For information, call 713-524-4222 or visit www.houstonitaliancenter.com. $5.
