British-born singer-songwriter Seal is currently touring behind sixth studio LP Soul, featuring covers of timeless classics like Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come," James Brown's "It's A Man's World" and Ben E. King's "Stand By Me." Seal has tackled music by other composers before — he has remade Nat King Cole's "Mona Lisa" for the Mona Lisa Smile soundtrack, and Steve Miller's "Fly Like an Eagle" — but Soul is the first time he's used an album to salute an entire genre. Seal has told interviewers the positive response he got from his Cooke cover — which has become an anthem once again in the wake of Barack Obama's campaign and election — inspired the album, and his velvety baritone fits the tunes like a glove. Just listening to "If You Don't Know Me By Now" and "I've Been Loving You Too Long" is enough to give anyone goose bumps, and then some.
