Loggia Brings Uptown to Sugar Land with an Ultramodern Sports Bar

Tim Proto, the co-owner of the new Loggia (2248 Texas Dr., Sugar Land, 281-903 7324), may be a newcomer to the restaurant business, but his partner, Alfred Bonilla, more than makes up for his lack of experience — he's the owner of Deco Lounge in Midtown. "We saw a unique opportunity in Sugar Land to open a contemporary, upscale sports bar with very modern, sleek design," says Proto. "Sugar Land really needed something like this. It's like it should be in Miami or Vegas, it has that Euro feel."

Bonilla wanted to bring something to Sugar Land you'd be more likely to find downtown. "I wanted to keep people here, to find it locally," he says. "This is way beyond your typical sports bar, although we wanted people to find things on the menu like nachos, wings and bar food that you would find in any sports bar. We're really proud of the menu. After 10:30 at night, it has more of a lounge feel with a video DJ."

Loggia has a clean, crisp, white ultramodern decor. It has one of the biggest TV screens ever, and yet it does not have a typical sports-bar feel. The enormous outdoor patio is a great place to kick back and enjoy dishes like the Cuban-style burger with Kobe beef and chorizo or the pasta a la vodka followed by a lavender-infused crème brûlée.

I went this past Saturday ( Nov 27) and my friend was wearing Polo Botts. The stupid , arrogant, child curly headed racist guy at the door said your friend cannot get in. I said Why ? He said he is out of dress code. I said dress code, he said he is wearing Polo Boots. I said ok and the problem is, "oh you cannot wear polo boots in here"....uumm are you kidding me. I said so what can you wear. He replied with....READY...GET THIS....he can wear tennis shoes or sandals ??? WTF !! are you serious..I said What, are you serious ? He said those are the rules. I said that is f*** ridiculous, no dress type polo boots but tennis shoes or beach type sandals....I called him a few words and left. I maybe didnt get in cause I was hispanic but maybe if I was white or asian, he probably would have overlooked it. BAD UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF !!

I have been to Loggia a few times and while the music is great, the service is horrible. I usually go with a group of friends. After 10:30, it turn into more of a night club. I definitely would not compare it to Miami, in Miami people are dancing, you can let loose more. Tim Pronto is anything but "pronto." He is comes across as arrogant and rude. I can recall one time I needed service since i had already been waiting 20 minutes atthe bar for a drink and his reply was, "I'm busy." Maybe if i was more modelisque looking he would've assisted me. You would think beingf a patron and spending money on their highly priced drinks would be enough. I also witnessed many groups of what appeared to be under-aged people entering and being served at the bar. ID's were NOT checked.

Its a "sports" bar that discourages the use of sports gear, interesting approach, might as well call it a lounge...
