SCE statistics show 25% of solar households purchase the system while 75% go for the lease or PPA options. The cost per Watt varies widely - ranging here from $4/watt to $7-$8/watt before incentives. In my case I already invested in double paned windows with argon gas, high efficiency kitchen appliances, additional attic insulation and high SEER air conditioning and heating systems so my annual average monthly electric bill is only $80, whereas some of my neighbors are seeing average monthly bills in the $200-$500 range due mostly to high air conditioning costs in the summer. In my case it just doesn't make sense to go solar - the only argument in favor of doing so is the rising cost per watt of power from SCE over time. Hope this helps.
