If you're going practically all the way to Tomball for a retro bill, it might as well be one that can practically rock you right back to the Loop. Hell, Joan Jett might be able to do that even without twentysomething hardbodies the Blackhearts backing her up. Since first stepping onstage with the Runaways in the mid-'70s, Jett has shown nothing but fierce determination and badass attitude, both in the chart-topping days of "I Love Rock and Roll" and "Bad Reputation" and as the patron saint of a generation of female rockers spanning Bikini Kill to the Donnas. Joining her are the Smithereens, Jersey boys who clung (loudly) to sharp hooks and crisp chords when '80s college radio was otherwise mired in mopey synth-pop and melody-challenged punk — and were rewarded with hits like "A Girl Like You," "Behind a Wall of Sleep" and "Blues Before and After." Giving nothing away, the band's latest LP, B-Sides the Beatles, dusts some cobwebs off more obscure corners of the Fab Four's catalog like "You Can't Do That" and "P.S. I Love You."
