Houston Fringe Festival

Check out the latest from local underground playwrights, filmmakers, improv and theater troupes

BooTown’s Houston Fringe Festivalshows you things you’ve never seen before. For the annual presentation, local theater troupes, filmmakers, playwrights and performance artists perform their latest, and often previously unseen, works at bars, coffee shops, tattoo parlors and street corners. Participating groups include Bobbindoctrin Puppet Theatre, Mildred’s Umbrella Theater, Scatter! and the 48-hour Film Project. Storylines vary as much as methods of presentation: A man seeks advice from an overbearing Buddhist, former couples document their breakups and two women struggle with gender identity while trying to assist a wizard in a bathrobe. There’s a kickoff party on Thursday. Performances run 6:30 to 11 p.m. Friday, 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Various locations, including Dean’s Credit Clothing, 316 Main. For information, visit www.houstonfringefestival.org. $7 to $55.
