Fischerspooner
Published on May 12, 2009 at 2:36pm
In hindsight, the idea that people once considered Fischerspooner an electroclash act is laughable. NYC duo Warren Fischer and Casey Spooner have always been a synth-pop band with a penchant for flamboyant glam and performance art. The proof is in enduring songs such as "Emerge," a stuttering single full of sine-wave keyboards and Kraftwerkian robotics. This futuristic playfulness returns on Fischerspooner's new album, Entertainment, a welcome comeback full of goth-pop squelches ("Infidels of the World Unite") and primitive, minimalist synth-pop. Be sure to seek out the pair's cover of R.E.M. obscurity "Fascinating" on stereogum.com, too.
