8 1/2, Federico Fellini’s 1963 masterpiece — and Oscar winner for Best Foreign Film — did more than just make actor Marcello Mastroianni an international movie star. It made its director a legend. Already famous for the influential La Strada and La Dolce Vita, Fellini became a household name with this fictional, sensationalized account of a movie director facing writer’s block.
