Don’t get us wrong — Minute Maid is a lovely park. But Houstonians gazing at its polished scoreboards and high-tech sunroof might feel a twinge of longing for the weird and wild Astrodome, which still sits forlornly south of downtown. Sate your nostalgia with Astrodome Cinema, a pair of documentary films about the world’s first domed stadium, showing today at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston in conjunction with the exhibition “No Zoning: Artists Engage Houston.” First up is The Pleasures of this Stately Dome, a 1975 movie by Geoff Winningham that highlights the Astrodome’s range as a venue and includes footage of construction, demolition derbies, Evel Knievel, rodeos and sports events. Next is The Lord of the Universe, a 1974 flick about the visit of 16-year-old guru Maharaj Ji to the Dome. Sigh fondly at those Lucite skylights beginning at 6:30 p.m. 5216 Montrose.
