“Light as Air”

Discovery Green’s latest outdoor art show is up in the air

Beach balls, inner tubes and kiddie pools: It seems that all of summer’s good things are inflatable. This includes “Light as Air,”the art exhibition at Discovery Green. Stop by to admire the 50-foot, waving black stalks of Susan Robb’s Warmth, Giant Black Toobs, a reference, Robb has said, to the rise of plastic waste in our ecosystem. Performance artist Pat Oleszko of New York has offered up Footloose and Fantasy Free, one of her colorful, goofy inflatable costumes. Houston-based artist Sharon Engelstein will feature two inflated works, Tethertwin, which looks like a mass of dividing cells, and the cheerful, bulbous Green Golly. Finally, David Graeve’s lighted photographic balloons that have hung from the Green’s oak trees will return and will be suspended on the surface of Kinder Lake. 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Through May 31. 1500 McKinney. For information, call 713-400-7336 or visit www.discoverygreen.com. Free. May 28-31, 2009
