Re-Birth-Day Celebration

Web exclusive!

Galveston’s Re-Birth-Day Celebration is a party crawl with a purpose. After Hurricane Ike sent a ten-foot wave crashing through the island’s historic Strand District, the downtown/waterfront area was devastated. Less that a year later, the district is reopened and ready for business. And, just in case there was any doubt in anyone’s mind, today’s Re-Birth-Day crawl shows just how party-ready Galveston is these days.

Things start off at the Strand District, then move over to Ship’s Mechanic Row, Saengerfest Park and finally Pier 21. Along the way, there’s live music, sidewalk art exhibits, street parties and, we’re sure, a place to get a beer or two. Area restaurants, bars, hotels, boutiques, museums and historic sites will all have the welcome sign on their doors. Noon to 6 p.m. Strand District, downtown Galveston. For information, call 1-888-GAL-ISLE or visit www.galveston.com. Free.
