Drink for Aurora!

Support your favorite movie house by starting a tab

Show Aurora Picture Show you care, by getting boozed up. At Drink for Aurora!, local bar Poison Girl will donate a portion of the day's sales to Houston's favorite little independent film house. As you raise your glass, check out selections from Aurora's DVD label. There's Enid Baxter Blader's A Film Is a Burning Place, a collection of experimental shorts focusing on small-town life and stormy weather (both the figurative and literal kinds). There's also The Best of SLANT, with highlights from Aurora's annual Asian film festival, and Arthouse Texas Prize-winner/microcinema darling Eileen Maxson's Lost Broadcasts, which shows various women's experiences with television (she performs a rejected video application to MTV's Real World and appears as a frazzled meteorologist). Oh, and because there's likely not a video to remind of you of this, we will: Don't forget to tip your bartenders. 5 to 9 p.m. 1641 Westheimer. For information, call 713-868-2101 or visit www.aurorapictureshow.org. Free.
