Guantanamera

Web exclusive!

It’s all about death and love, love and death in the 1995 Cuban film Guantanamera. In the movie, Gina’s aunt dies during a visit, and Gina must return the body home. Gina’s loud and bossy husband takes over everything (just like he usually does), leaving Gina time to reflect on the life her aunt lived and her own. When the funeral procession crosses paths with a group of truck drivers, including one that had once been in love with Gina, she realizes she has one last chance at happiness. 7 p.m. Institute of Hispanic Culture of Houston, 3315 Sul Ross. For information, call 713-528-1492 or visit www.ihch.org. Free to $3.
Fri., June 12, 7 p.m., 2009
