“Blow Up Houston”

These ain’t your little sister’s dolls — unless your little sister was an explosives expert

Expect to hear a few booms at “Blow Up Houston,” a show of customized vinyl blow-up dolls. Wait, wait, these aren’t the plastic pretend sex-partners you buy off of X-rated Web sites. These dolls are nine inches tall and have heads shaped like explosives. Designer Jamungo created two versions — Nade, who has a grenade for a head, and Bud, who has a bomb atop his shoulders. Urban gallery Aerosol Warfare handed out 50 of the blank dolls to Houston artists, designers and photographers to personalize in any way they wanted. Nothing was off-limits to the artists, and their handiwork will be unveiled during today’s opening reception at 7 to 11 p.m. Regular viewing hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays. Through July 31. 2100 Jefferson. For information, call 713-503-5714 or visit www.myspace.com/aerosolwarfare. Free.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: June 26. Continues through July 31, 2009
