More About

Houston's sweltering summer weather sounds like a peculiar way to promote a festival (or anything, really), but the Texas Heat Music Festival could prove aptly named indeed. Shades of the old Party on the Plaza with a decided indie-rock, laptop-dance and underground hip-hop twist, the two-day affair promises to test Houston hipsters' fortitude as it indulges their rhythmic appetites. NYC "House of Jealous Lovers" landlords the Rapture headline with a DJ set that should delve deep into the duo's electro-punk influences, with ex-Def Jux mixmaster RJD2, Austin's DJ Mel and L.A. duo People Under the Stairs holding it down for hip-hop lovers. Boston hedonists Hot Pink Delorean, Canadian hard-house jammer Felix Cartal and Leeds live-instrument/club-track mash-uppers 2020 Soundsystem are the pick of Texas Heat's electronic litter, supported by well over a dozen local DJs including Ceeplus Bad Knives, Grrrl Parts, DJ Red, Damon Allen, James Reed, DJ Red and Brandon Silva. If that doesn't make you sweat, maybe the host of local bands — Roky Moon & Bolt, Glasnost, Peekaboo Theory, the Mathletes, Springfield Riots, the Sour Notes, Electric Attitude, Female Demand and lots more — will. Ticket prices, both general-admission and VIP, are available in single-day and weekend passes and increase steadily as the festival approaches; see Texas Heat's Web site for details. And don't forget that sunscreen.
