"Anywhere you can buy drugs in this country, you can buy children - American children - for sex," says Libby Spears, director of the documentary film Playground: The Child Sex Trade in America. Spears will be in Houston to introduce Playgroundduring Hidden Truths of Houston: A Film Series on the Realities Facing Our Children. (If you think the child sex trade isn't a problem in Houston, think again. Local experts report that there are as many as 650 runaway children and teens on Houston streets any night, and that one in three runaways is lured into the sex trade within 48 hours of leaving home. That doesn't include all the children and teens who are brought into the area specifically for sexual exploitation, a number that could reach the thousands annually.) Joining Spears will be FBI Special Agent Pat Franson, who fights local trafficking. RSVPs are required for this screening, which is presented by Children at Risk's Houston Young Professionals Engaged for Kids. 6 p.m. University of St. Thomas, 3800 Montrose.
