Aga-Boom

This international supergroup of avant-garde clowns needs no translation

Cream was a supergroup of rock musicians and the Justice League a supergroup of, um, superheroes. Is there a supergroup of...clowns? Yes, three whiteface jokesters formerly with Cirque du Soleil, Ringling Brothers and the Moscow Circus have combined their mighty mirth to present Aga-Boom. Part outrageous physical comedy and part lowbrow theatrical clowning, with a smidgen of European avant-garde performance art thrown in, Aga-Boom is a show where language is no barrier. One of its signature devices is its use of paper (the company's name is a take on the Russian word for papyrus, boomaga). Throughout, performers and audience toss piles and piles of the crumpled stuff (along with balloons) back and forth until the entire venue is one crinkly mess. 1 and 7 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Through July 26. Moody Gardens, 1 Hope Boulevard, Galveston. For information, call 409-683-4186 or visit www.moodytickets.com. $9 to $25.
Thursdays-Sundays, 1 & 7 p.m. Starts: July 16. Continues through July 26, 2009
