Big River

Web exclusive!

Country music fans knew Roger Miller as the singer/songwriter behind "King of the Road." Musical theater fans knew him as the talent behind the Tony Award-winning score to Big River. The show's title refers to the Mississippi River, the escape route Huck Finn and his friend Jim, a runaway slave, take as they try to reach the north, where Jim can be free. Based on Mark Twain's 1883 novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Big River offers comedic hijinks and adventure mixed with a message about self-determination. 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 3 p.m. Sundays. Through August 8. Houston Family Arts Center, 8877 Barker Cypress Road. For information, call 281-685-6374 or visit www.houstonfac.com. $12 to $16.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 3 p.m. Starts: July 24. Continues through Aug. 8, 2009
