Tierney Malone finds a new take on Godfather-inspired art

Saying something new about an iconic piece of art is nearly impossible, but Tierney Malone succeeds in the Godfather-inspired exhibit La Cosa Nostra.” Malone, who’s been a serious fan of the first two parts of the saga for 20 years, began to pay attention to the signs — advertisements, real estate notices — present in integral scenes. It inspired the Houston-based artist to take examples of these subtle backdrops and bring them together as visually striking commentary on the epic story. In Reno, the side of a red Nevada-bound moving truck dominates the top two-thirds of one piece, and a portion of a commercial real-estate sign featuring the words “Future — SOLD” is laid ominously across the bottom. It’s a sharp assessment of the Corleone family’s situation at the end of part one.
