More About

Local kids get a chance to shine at today’s Roundwall Rumble Skateboard Contest, an open-call competition. “You can expect to see a lot of airs, carving, grinding and plants,” says Michael Niemann, one of the event’s organizers. “We’re expecting about 100 kids. It’s all very fast and action-packed. Spectators can expect lots of thrills and spills.” The head judge is local pro Jason Espeseth; along with his cohorts, he’ll be handing out $500 in prize money to the top winners. Niemann says he’s hoping for a contingent of female skaters. “We can’t say for sure, but we’d like to have a girls’ division. If we don’t get enough for a separate division, I’m sure that they’ll mix it up with the boys.” 6 to 10 p.m. The Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark, 103 Sabine.
