Josh Neufeld

Josh Neufeld's Katrina comic isn't kid stuff

In A.D.: New Orleans After the Deluge, artist Josh Neufeld shows how a graphic novel can tackle serious, real-life events - in this case, a city in the wake of a natural disaster. His poignant work follows the lives of seven Crescent City citizens who are forced to choose between staying in their city or fleeing Hurricane Katrina. Neufeld had plenty of opportunity to hear survivors' storm stories firsthand when he spent three weeks immediately after the disaster as a Red Cross volunteer in Biloxi, Mississippi. His ability to tap into the humanity of his characters and portray a city on the brink of destruction has earned Neufeld praise from the likes of Cornel West and Dave Eggers. He’ll do a signing at 6 p.m., which will be followed by a visual presentation at 8:30 p.m. Domy Books, 1709 Westheimer. For information, visit www.domystore.com. Free.
