Houstonian and former true-crime writer Kathryn Casey often gets calls from families who want her to help a loved one. She's heard hundreds of parents say, "My son is innocent," or "My daughter would never commit suicide." The fact that the families are turning to Casey, a journalist and novelist, for help speaks to their desperation. Casey finds it easier to deal with the family members in novels she writes. There, even though they might say the same things their real-life counterparts do, it isn't as heartbreaking when the truth she finds isn't the truth they were looking for. In her most recent novel, Blood Lines, Casey has once again called on the character Sarah Armstrong, a Texas Ranger, to come up with the answers when a teenaged celebrity is being stalked at the rodeo and a driven businesswoman is found dead. Everyone thinks the woman committed suicide, but Armstrong isn't quite sure. 6:30 p.m. Murder by the Book, 2342 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-524-8597 or visit www.murderbooks.com. Free.
