Local theater enthusiasts know Joel Orr as the man behind the hands behind the Bobbindoctrin Puppet Theatre. But tonight he'll put his puppets aside to read straight from old scripts for the Poison Pen Reading Series. Won't he feel naked without his strung-up friends? "No, well, you notice me out in the world - I don't carry a puppet with me, so..." says Orr. Selections include "There," a silent performance piece about a man's nightly routine in his too-small-for-comfort apartment next to a railroad track. "[It's] just stage directions, mostly," he says. Orr will also read an excerpt from The Crime of the Assistant Master Butler, which he describes as a "fake-murder mystery." Local poet/playwright Andrew Kozma will also read poems from his manuscript inspired by the Nobel Prize winner Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. Get your drinks before 8:30 p.m. Poison Girl, 1641 Westheimer.
