Villancicos sounds like it translates as "bad guys scheming to deflower virgins in Mexican telenovelas," but the word actually describes a poetic form of singing popular in 17th- and 18th-century Mexican and Spanish culture. In the style, lyrics typically revolving around religion and love are sung in a refrain followed by two stanzas. But you don't have to be a music or history nerd to enjoy Fiesta Mexicana Barroca, where classical group Mercury Baroque joins forces with the vocal stylings of Mexican sextet Voz en Punto and two guest guitarists for a sonic blast from the past. Voz en Punto is known for its wildly expressive and interpretive performances, so don't expect a staid recital. Think of it as a mash-up between violins and vatosof the old, old-school persuasion. 8 p.m. Miller Outdoor Theatre, 100 Concert Drive.
