Rockapella Goes Retro

Vocalists team with the Houston Symphony for a rock retrospective

While the image of a cappella singing groups conjures guys with candy-striped coats or leather jackets singing smooth doo-wop, the five-man unit Rockapella travels forward in time for slightly more contemporary musical inspiration. For Rockapella Goes Retro, the group that never has to worry about getting its instruments stolen will team with the Houston Symphony and conductor Michael Krajewski for a program of '60s and '70s tunes, including "Here Comes the Sun," "Under the Boardwalk," "Rock the Boat" and "Philadelphia Freedom." Watch them harmonize for a full set with the best backing band you could ask for at 8 p.m. Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, 2005 Lake Robbins Drive. For information, visit www.woodlandscenter.org. Free to $15.
Thu., Sept. 3, 8 p.m., 2009
