As Kris Kristofferson so aptly noted years ago, there's just not much that's as miserable as a Sunday morning coming down. Not long ago, Cosmos Café was the place to be on Sundays for country music fans and folks who love to two-step, but that went the way of the Edsel when funky old Cosmos became the yuppiefied Porch Swing Pub. Maybe the Continental Club's new Sunday Honky Tonk Happy Hour will fill the void. This late afternoon/early evening soiree is hosted by Miss Leslie Sloan and Her Juke Jointers, one of the regular Cosmos Sunday bands that made those afternoons hop. She's even bringing in special guests to spice things up; the Sunday we went, Mike Stinson sat in for half a set of straight up tear-in-your-beer honky-tonk classics like "Dime At a Time" and "Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound." Leslie is no slouch at the classics of honky-tonk either, and steel ace Ricky Davis pushes the affair to virtuoso level. There's no cover, so even the price is right.
