Bayou City Concert Musicals: On the Town

Sailors sing their way through the city that never sleeps

Three U.S. Navy sailors let loose on a 24-hour pass in the Big Apple — now what could go wrong? In the Bayou City Concert Musicals production of On the Town, high jinks ensue when three sailors decide to search for a woman they’ve seen on a poster. (One’s in love; the other two are just highly dedicated wing men.) Leonard Bernstein’s sweeping score drives the action, which includes mishaps with prehistoric fossils and randy cab drivers. The production represents a couple of firsts for BCCM — with five ballets, it’s the biggest dance performance the company has undertaken. It’s also the first time BCCM has used a professional orchestra. Bernstein deserves no less. 8 p.m. Saturday, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Heinen Theatre, 3517 Austin. For information, call 713-465-6484 or visit www.bayoucityconcertmusicals.org. $15 to $35.
Sept. 12-13, 8 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 13, 2 & 7:30 p.m., 2009
