El Grito Festival de la Independencia

Web exclusive

Newsflash for the gringos: Cinco de Mayo doesn’t mean much to most Mexicans. When it comes to national holidays, it’s all about September 16, known as El Grito, when Mexicans celebrate winning their independence from Spain. Whether this is news to you or not, one of the best places to celebrate (a day early) is Miller Outdoor Theatre, where El Grito Festival de la Independencia will include Grupo Control, Los Bohemeos de Michoacan, Sebastian Vasquez y su Banda Copalena, mariachis, folkloric dance and more. The festival begins at 3 p.m. and the concert starts at 5 p.m. 100 Concert Drive. For information, visit www.milleroutdoortheatre.org. Free.

According to the Miller Theatre, the concert actually starts at 6 p.m. There was an error in the brochure. Although, if you get to Miller by 5 p.m. you can enjoy the people watching and a picnic on the hill.
