Four artists want to let you in on their inner selves
For the season-opening DiverseWorks exhibition “‘Now That I’m by Myself,’ she says, ‘I’m Not by Myself, which is Good,’” independent curator Rachel Cook sought to amplify the connection between the personal and the performative in the work of artists Brian Bress, Wynne Greenwood, Laurel Nakadate and Yuki Okumura. Their video, photography, sculpture and drawings reveal the process of self-revelation — for the artist, and for everyone. From the “self-aware feminist and queer” works of Greenwood to Okumura’s insightful examinations of her own body, the works may inspire you to share a bit more of yourself — or keep it even more closely contained.
