Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

Breakfast Klub owner Marcus Davis presents his favorite flick

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, a comedy of manners directed by Stanley Kramer, was nominated for a whopping ten Academy Awards. One could argue that it didn't deserve quite such an effusive response, but two screen giants certainly stand out: the gruff, thoroughly human Spencer Tracy giving his last performance and, of course, the saintly, sexy Sidney Poitier. The story deals with interracial marriage - a highly controversial issue in 1967, when race riots ravaged Cleveland, Newark and Detroit. The film, part of the Meals on Reels program that features local chefs selecting their favorite movies, will be introduced by Marcus Davis, the owner of The Breakfast Klub. 7 p.m. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-639-7515 or visit www.mfah.org/films. $6 to $7.
Mon., Sept. 21, 7 p.m., 2009
