Everything is Terrible:The Movie

Everything is Terrible: The Movie mashes years of video lowlights into an absurd gem

The found-art mavens from the blog Everything Is Terrible have spent years scouring the shelves of thrift stores and video-rental chains to find the worst that VHS has to offer. This summer they cobbled together some of the best footage for their first film, Everything is Terrible: The Movie. The result is a hilarious, semi-narrative exercise in rapid-fire absurdity. Taking their cues from musical mash-up artists like Girl Talk and dj BC, the bicoastal collective weaves together footage from ill-advised infomercials, creepy religious programming, confounding instructional videos and the best Z-grade movies you've never seen. Most clips hail from 1985 to 1993, a sweet spot of cultural garishness, when anyone with a shoestring budget apparently thought they could be a video star. Be warned - you'll never see Angela Lansbury the same way again. 7:30 p.m. Alamo Drafthouse West Oaks, 1000 West Oaks Mall. For information, call 281-920-9211 or visit www.drafthouse.com/westoaks. $10.
