Progressive Forum: Brian Greene

Brian Greene knows how to make you stop worrying and love physics

The average American, thanks to the haunting memory of high school C's and D's, lives in abject terror of the terms "string theory," "Calabi-Yau manifolds" and "hidden dimensions." Not only does Columbia University physics professor Brian Greene understand all of this stuff, he's established himself as one of the best at explaining it to the frightened masses. The author of The Elegant Universe and The Fabric of the Cosmos will speak today in a presentation of the Progressive Forum, accompanied by mind-blowing imagery from outer space. Greene will talk about the joys (yes, the joys) of science, and how not to go into conniptions when you try to comprehend the size and shape of the universe (or how much money you could have made had you just stuck it out in science class). 7:30 p.m. Wortham Center’s Cullen Theater, 500 Texas. For information, call 713-664-0020 or visit www.progressiveforumhouston.org. $14 to $74.
Tue., Sept. 29, 7:30 p.m., 2009
