Lone Star College: "Día de los Muertos"

The Mexican holiday gets translated onto canvas

Get an early start on your Day of the Dead celebrations with the art exhibit "Día de los Muertos." The show features works by Lisa Hernandez and Lizbeth Ortiz (the official artist of the 2008 Latin Grammys) in a variety of media, reflecting their avant-garde takes on the holiday, when many Mexicans and Mexican-Americans remember loved ones who've passed away. Day of the Dead art may seem macabre at first glance, with its heavy emphasis on skeletons and the like, but it's not. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Through November 11. Lone Star College-Montgomery, 3200 College Park Drive. For information, call 936-273-7000 or visit www.lonestar.edu/montgomery. Free.
Mondays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Oct. 5. Continues through Nov. 11, 2009
